Water baptism is an outward expression of repentance from sin, your new life in Christ, and a public declaration of what Jesus has done in your life.
Jesus set the example for us by being baptized Himself, and He commanded His followers to baptize new believers in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 3:13–17; Matthew 28:19–20). Because of this, water baptism is an important step of obedience for every follower of Christ.
Just as Christ died and was buried, going under the water symbolizes the death of your old life and the forgiveness of your sins.Just as Christ was raised from the dead, coming up out of the water symbolizes your new life in Christ—freed from the power of sin and empowered by the Holy Spirit to live a new and holy life for God.
We believe that a person should first be born again by God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ before being baptized in water.
Water baptism does not save you, wash away your sins, give you new life, make you a Christian, or make you a member of a church. Rather, it is an act of obedience that publicly declares the saving work Jesus has already accomplished in your life.
